LESSONS
I offer lessons to committed students, beginners
to advanced, in piano/keyboard technique, jazz improvisation for any
instrument, arranging, and computer music production.
Beginning piano is taught using a series of piano method books. Regular
practice (30 minutes per day, 4-5 days per week) is crucial to making
progress. Within the year, the disciplined student will have acquired
the skills needed to begin playing some classical, pop, and jazz pieces.
Weekly lessons are available at the rate of $30 per half-hour lesson.
An advanced student wishing to study improvisation or arranging needs
to be able to read notes on the staff and find these notes quickly
on their instrument. This is necessary to effectively communicate
the language of music. The aspiring improviser must become facile
with scales and chord construction, and then spend time experimenting
with these tools while learning repertoire. I have developed (and
acquired through my own study) many different approaches to practicing
these seemingly mundane topics. One-hour lessons are offered at the
rate of $60/hour, and are offered weekly, bi-weekly, or "as needed."
I offer lessons/consultations covering the basics of computer music
production to those wishing to learn to record music using modern
technology; setting up your studio, using a computer based sequencer,
midi orchestration/arranging. Rates are $60/hour on site, $75/hour
off site.
PAYMENT
Payment is due at the beginning of each month for all lessons in that
month.
CANCELLATIONS
If you must cancel, please call 919-838-0776 at least 24 hours before
your lesson and leave a message. Make-ups for canceled lessons are scheduled
upon availability. If you cancel on the day of your lesson, you could
forfeit that lesson. Genuine emergencies will receive special consideration,
of course. I may occasionally have to cancel a lesson. I will do my best
to give 24 hours notice, and a credit or make-up lesson will be offered. |
